Staff Product Designer, Mid-Market Projects + PM Agent

As a Staff Product Designer on the Mid-Market team, you will lead design across some of our most strategic investments — including PM Agent and Projects — shaping how AI and workflows come together to power end-to-end customer experiences. This role operates at both a product and system level, driving clarity across complex domains while influencing the broader platform direction. You will own and evolve end-to-end workflows that connect project management, financial insights, and AI-powered assistance — helping businesses plan, execute, and manage work seamlessly within QuickBooks. You’ll partner closely with product, engineering, and design peers to define the future of AI-native experiences, while ensuring solutions scale across use cases, verticals, and the broader ecosystem. This is a highly visible role requiring strong systems thinking, AI fluency, and cross-functional leadership to deliver cohesive, high-impact experiences. Responsibilities Lead end-to-end design strategy and execution for PM Agent and Projects, driving cohesive experiences across planning, budgeting, execution, and insights. Define and evolve AI-native interaction models, balancing automation with user control and flexibility across workflows. Own complex, cross-surface systems, ensuring consistency and scalability across features, tools, and emerging platform patterns. Translate ambiguous, complex problem spaces (AI-assisted workflows, project operations, financial insights) into clear, intuitive, and extensible experiences. Drive alignment across cross-functional partners (PM, Engineering, Data, Research), influencing product direction and prioritization. Shape product and design strategy, contributing to roadmap definition and identifying high-impact opportunities across the domain. Elevate design quality and craft, setting a high bar for interaction, visual design, and storytelling across the team. Leverage data and research to inform decisions, define success metrics, and iterate on solutions. Champion AI design practices, integrating generative AI and automation into workflows to improve speed, accuracy, and usability. Establish and scale patterns and frameworks that can be reused across teams, contributing to platform consistency and design systems evolution. Mentor and guide other designers, providing feedback, raising the level of craft, and influencing team culture. Communicate a strong point of view, using clear rationale grounded in user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility. Partner closely with engineering to ensure high-quality implementation and feasibility of complex interactions. Qualifications 6–8+ years of experience in product design, interaction design, or related fields, with experience operating at a senior or staff level. Proven ability to lead design across complex, ambiguous domains and deliver end-to-end experiences. Strong systems thinking and experience designing scalable frameworks across multiple surfaces or products. Demonstrated experience designing AI-powered or data-driven experiences, with an understanding of how to balance automation and user control. Excellent cross-functional collaboration and influence, with the ability to align stakeholders and drive decisions. Strong design craft across interaction and visual design, with a high bar for quality and attention to detail. Experience using data and research to inform design decisions and measure impact. Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and persuasively. Experience contributing to or evolving design systems, patterns, or platform-level solutions. Pay offered is based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and work location. Expected base pay range for this position: Bay Area, California $188,500‑$255,000. Pay range: San Francisco $188,500‑$255,000; Mountain View, CA $188,500‑$255,000.
