About the Role

The Company is seeking a Vice President of Staff Underwriting to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining underwriting governance, including the development of underwriting standards and best practices for each business unit. This role involves close collaboration with business unit leaders to ensure a strong underwriting value proposition that supports the company's growth and innovation in the market. The VP will also oversee internal underwriting audits, quality assurance, and work with the compliance team to ensure all processes are in line with regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities for the Vice President of Staff Underwriting at the company include leading the artificial intelligence strategy related to underwriting, managing product development and documentation, and serving as the underwriting liaison with external partners. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, with a Master's degree being a plus, and industry certifications are strongly desired. A minimum of 15 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, particularly in construction and contractor commercial lines, is required. The role demands a professional with a deep understanding of underwriting in the context of New York labor law, and experience with both admitted and surplus lines formats. The VP will also be expected to have a proven track record of collaboration with product management and actuarial teams, exceptional critical and systems thinking skills, and executive-level communication abilities.
