Lead Clinical Laboratory Technologist – Cytogenetics - Days

The Lead Technologist operates as a content expert and high functioning lab technologist within the Cytogenetics team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in karyotyping complex oncology cases and proficiency with ISCN nomenclature. - Oversees or participates in the technical operations including QA/QC checks, system maintenance issues, accuracy of test results, and general sample troubleshooting.
- Oversees laboratory staff in the performance of qualitative and quantitative test procedures.
- Acts as reference source for technologists in the correlation of test data.
- Implements solutions to problems in processing and delivering highly accurate patient data.
- Participates in QA/QC concerns, which relate to result data delivery and patient care.
- Oversees issues relating to laboratory workflow and productivity.
- Tracks and responds to questions relating to testing procedures and results.
- Participates in the orientation, training and competency assessment of staff.
- Provide staff supervisory coverage as needed.
This role works Monday - Friday on the day shift. Location is our Weill Cornell campus on Manhattan's Upper East Side.
Preferred Criteria
- Possess extensive knowledge and experience of FISH and Oncology Cytogenetics
- ASCP certification
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with laboratory regulations and/or CAP inspections
Required Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure from the New York Education department
- 4 years experience as a Laboratory Technologist (or 2 years experience with a Master's degree)
- Knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures
- Strong communication skills
