Overview Cancer treatment shouldn't stop because of side effects or health issues like diabetes or arthritis. That's why we have the Internal Medicine Center. The center helps care for patients' overall health and addresses common side effects that occur during and after care. It also helps treat medical conditions besides cancer and their interactions with cancer and its treatments. Clinical Nurse Opportunity The ideal candidate will be an RN with at least two years of experience. Prefer candidates with experience working in an outpatient environment. Oncology, general internal medicine, or infectious disease experience is a plus. Shift Monday – Friday, 8‑hour shift between 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (varies based on business needs). Salary Range Minimum: $68,000; Midpoint: $105,200; Maximum: $142,500. Hourly breakdown: minimum $32.69; midpoint $50.58; maximum $68.51. What’s in it for you? Summary of Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Outpatient Clinical Nurse position is to coordinate and implement patient care across the continuum of care. The Outpatient Clinical Nurse is accountable and responsible for providing quality, evidence‑based patient care through the appropriate use of resources in collaboration with the inter‑professional team. Acts as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights. Organizes and prioritizes work of the patient care team; trains, coaches, and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources. Empirical Outcomes The Clinical Nurse is responsible for seeking out and maintaining knowledge regarding relevant empirical outcomes, including the impact of quality improvement initiatives and institutional best practices on the patient population, nursing workforce, and institution. Other duties as assigned. Internal Medicine Center Outpatient Nurse Competencies Has a working knowledge of various chemotherapy/immunotherapy drugs to treat IMC patients. A broad understanding of oncology drug administration with knowledge of drug side effects and usage. Has the ability to assist with various IMC procedures, knows basic sterile technique, handling of specimens, and procedural processes. Internal Medicine Center Outpatient Nurse Triage: On occasion will function as the telephone triage nurse, has a strong working knowledge of IMC oncology protocols, and can assist patients with strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Education Required: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. License / Certification Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in the ASC Post Anesthesia department. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the ASC Post Anesthesia or Pediatric Child & Adolescent Center departments. Preferred: Oncology Nurse Certification (OCN) and other specialty practice certifications. Experience Required: None. Preferred: Two years of relevant clinical nurse experience, preferably in an outpatient setting; oncology experience. General internal medicine or infectious disease experience is a plus. All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
