Senior Lead Software Engineer - Java, React

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal software engineering training or certification, plus at least 5 years of applied experience.
• Proven expertise in distributed systems, application architecture, and technical leadership, including setting standards and leading initiatives across teams.
• Experience leading the effective use of approved AI-assisted development tools for coding, reviews, testing, and troubleshooting, and setting expectations for checking their outputs for accuracy, performance, and security.
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering, including sensitive data handling and secure, resilient practices; ability to coach engineers on safe and compliant adoption.
• Strong experience developing, debugging, and maintaining software in large enterprise environments, using modern programming languages and database query languages.
• Hands-on proficiency with Java, JavaScript or TypeScript, and Python, and a record of designing and delivering robust GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Deep full-SDLC experience, particularly with secure, resilient, observable systems and AWS cloud-native architectures such as ECS/Fargate, SNS, SQS, Lambda, API Gateway, and S3; includes multi-AZ or multi-region resiliency design.
• Strong grasp of agile practices, CI/CD, application resiliency, and security, with the ability to improve engineering workflows continuously.
• Ability to mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and guide architecture decisions that strengthen reliability, performance, and developer productivity.
• Advanced knowledge in at least one technical discipline, such as cloud, AI/ML, mobile, or data platforms, and the ability to apply it effectively to products.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including aligning technical choices with business outcomes and product strategy.
• Preferred: Terraform Infrastructure as Code expertise, including modular design and guardrails.
• Preferred: Experience with relational and distributed databases, ideally PostgreSQL, including data modeling, performance tuning, and operational considerations; video streaming, content management, or media platform experience is also beneficial.
• Preferred: Background in observability, performance optimization across metrics, logs, and traces, and cloud cost governance.
• Preferred: Experience with Hugo or other static site generators and content pipelines, including static builds, module registries, and artifact publishing; Lucene or similar full-text search, including indexing, filters, and tag-based discovery.
• Preferred: Experience building Module Federation micro-frontends and integrating them with host platforms, and developing Go CLI tools for scaffolding, validation, and build automation.
• Preferred: Experience with content-authoring and publishing platforms, RSS and email delivery, MCP channels for agent or IDE integration, ADFS-based SSO and role-based access control, and Bitbucket or GitHub integrations for contributor and commit tracking.

• Set platform architecture and technical strategy for one or more products, ensuring secure, scalable, resilient solutions throughout the SDLC.
• Lead complex initiatives from discovery and design through delivery and operations; establish engineering standards, reusable patterns, and reference implementations for adoption across teams, including capability-first APIs that serve channels such as authoring applications, MCP, email, RSS, and go/engineers.
• Design and build cloud-native software and manage key integrations, including Jira Align or Jira Plan roadmap data, Bitbucket or GitHub commit and contributor tracking, and event-driven notification and delivery workflows.
• Architect backend services, GraphQL APIs, and modern React interfaces, including Module Federation micro-frontends and Hugo-based static content pipelines; maintain sound GraphQL and REST API design and reliable client-server contracts.
• Lead content and discovery capabilities, including Lucene-based full-text search, documentation hosting across more than 50 content modules, and authoring pipelines for scaffolding, validation, and builds, with a focus on the go/blogs and go/engineers merger.
• Write secure, high-quality, well-documented code across languages and frameworks such as Java Spring Boot, React.js, GraphQL, Python, and Go, and model strong engineering practices.
• Mentor engineers from junior to senior levels through design and code reviews and hands-on guidance in best practices, system design, and implementation.
• Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to turn business goals into measurable technical outcomes, define roadmaps, and improve transparency through product metrics and KPIs.
• Establish and uphold standards for security, performance, availability, observability, and cost efficiency, including SLOs and SLAs, error budgets, automated CI/CD quality gates, and consistent ADFS-based SSO and role-based access controls.
• Assess and introduce technologies that improve developer experience, platform quality, and delivery speed; lead proofs of concept and promote secure-by-design practices, threat modeling, and proactive risk identification.
• Drive governance and adoption of approved AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, including code review and refactoring, test acceleration, release readiness, and incident analysis.
• Define measurable validation practices for AI-assisted work, including secure coding, peer review, and automated testing, and promote reuse of proven patterns and automation across the SDLC and TLM toolchain.
• Apply knowledge of SDLC tools, approved AI-assisted development, and automation capabilities to increase the value realized from automation at scale.
