UNIT DESCRIPTION Unit 14400/14500 Acute Care Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (South Campus) — 38-bed unit. BENEFITS & CAREER LADDER Benefits include a sign‑on bonus. OVERVIEW Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked among the nation’s top hospitals. The facility is a Magnet Hospital and employs full‑time academic faculty, community physicians, residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals. Acute Care Medicine handles a broad scope of clinical issues, including significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and many other conditions. Due to high patient acuity, nurses receive advanced training to reach the highest level of functioning. Each unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse, supported by an advanced practice nurse. Additionally, each unit has a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works with physicians, nurses, and patient‑care technicians to provide quality patient care. ROLE PURPOSE Provides direct patient care activities—including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation—within the standards of nursing care. RESPONSIBILITIES Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post‑treatment home care needs and medication administration. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver, in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs. Works in a constant state of alertness in a safety‑sensitive position, ensuring safe practice at all times. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate’s (Nursing) Experience: No experience required. Supervisor Experience: None. Licenses & Certifications: Registered Nurse (RN). PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Experience: None specified.
