About the Role

Picture your first week: you’re walking the Shady Grove campus with a Maintenance Supervisor, reviewing a plan to bring a new production cell online. You size conductors and breakers, pull in a feeder, verify transformer taps, and button up a run of bus duct — all while collaborating with Operations to minimize downtime. By week’s end, a 480V three-phase line is humming, controls are checked, and the team is moving product. That’s a typical rhythm for this role.

You’ll perform electrical installations and equipment maintenance across Shady Grove facilities — and at other locations as directed by the Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Supervisors, the Electrical Engineer, or their designated representatives. You’ll also champion and support company programs including Lean, 5S, and TPR.

• Work across a spectrum of power systems: from three-phase 480/12500 volt distribution and single-phase feeder/branch circuits to low-voltage DC control circuits.
• Service and commission equipment such as motors, generators, transfer switches, transformers, switchgear, bus ducts, and disconnects.
• Troubleshoot quickly and methodically to isolate faults and restore operations.
• Apply NEC, IEEE, and NEMA standards in daily work.
• Perform load calculations to right-size current-carrying conductors, conduit, fuses, and circuit breakers in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
• Pitch in with other duties as assigned by supervision.

• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of OSHA and NFPA70E requirements for working on or around energized circuits in heavy manufacturing.
• Maintain departmental housekeeping and 5S standards.
• Work safely, wear required PPE, and follow established job-specific and facility-wide safety procedures.
• Participate in safety training and show competency in the practices learned.
• Surface hazards, unsafe acts, and improvement ideas — and correct issues you can resolve.

• Valid driver’s license required.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Technical trade school training and/or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience in heavy manufacturing, a commercial/industrial apprenticeship, or comparable military experience preferred.

• Proficiency reading electrical schematics, wiring and ladder diagrams, and single-line high-voltage diagrams used for Arc Flash NFPA70E compliance.
• Ability to interpret operating procedures and technical manuals, and to produce clear routine reports and correspondence.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use tools or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, reach, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Incumbent must be able to physically climb ladders and safely operate lift equipment, such as scissor lifts, Manlifts and boom trucks. Incumbent will work in a typical manufacturing environment including the use of solvents, adhesives, hydraulic oil, petroleum products, etc. There is frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds. Incumbent must be willing to work at various heights.
