Job Description

This role focuses on high-quality pipe welding for a large industrial construction project, with a strong emphasis on stainless and carbon steel piping for higher-pressure gas and water systems. You will perform TIG and/or combo pipe welding, work closely with pipefitters on an active construction site, and ensure all work meets drawings, specifications, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform TIG and/or combo pipe welding on stainless and carbon steel piping in accordance with project drawings and specifications.
• Fit, tack, weld, and grind pipe to meet isometric drawings, weld symbols, and project requirements.
• Work on higher-pressure water and gas piping systems, ensuring weld integrity and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Collaborate closely with pipefitters on an active industrial construction site to install and align piping systems.
• Read and interpret isometric drawings, specifications, and weld symbols accurately to complete assignments.
• Pass and maintain a site-specific weld test as required for TIG and/or flux-core processes.
• Perform hydrotesting of pipe systems to verify structural integrity and leak tightness.
• Conduct air testing and leak testing on piping lines to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Work with Schedule 10 stainless steel and heavier wall piping, maintaining consistent weld quality.
• Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, hot-work permit requirements, and fire watch protocols at all times.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere strictly to all site safety rules and guidelines.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools and equipment safely and responsibly.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience as a pipe welder with a focus on TIG and/or combo welding on stainless and carbon steel pipe.
• Demonstrated strength in pipe welding rather than structural-only welding.
• Ability to perform high-quality stainless steel welds on higher-pressure gas and water piping systems.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting isometric drawings, specifications, and weld symbols.
• Experience working in plant, refinery, power, process, or large mechanical construction environments.
• Hands-on experience with higher-pressure gas and water piping installations.
• Capability to perform hydrotesting on piping systems.
• Capability to perform air testing and leak testing on piping lines.
• Experience working with Schedule 10 stainless steel and heavier piping.
• AWS pipe certifications in 6G TIG and/or flux-core welding, or the ability to obtain and pass equivalent site weld tests.
• Strong understanding of and adherence to LOTO procedures, hot-work permits, PPE requirements, and fire watch rules.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 6G pipe welding proficiency, particularly in TIG processes.
• Experience in industrial environments such as plants, refineries, power facilities, or process and large mechanical construction projects.
• Comfort working on active construction sites alongside pipefitters and other trades.
• Attention to detail in weld quality, fit-up, and finishing, including grinding and preparation for testing.
• Commitment to safety practices and continuous improvement in welding techniques.

Work Environment

This position is based on a large, active industrial construction site, working closely with pipefitters and other trades. The work involves TIG and combo welding on stainless and carbon steel pipe, including Schedule 10 stainless and heavier wall piping, for higher-pressure gas and water systems. You will operate in a safety-focused environment that requires strict adherence to lockout/tagout procedures, hot-work permits, PPE usage, and fire watch rules. The setting includes typical industrial conditions such as noise, elevated work areas, and exposure to varying weather conditions, with appropriate protective equipment and safety protocols in place.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $60.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
