Lead Kindergarten Teacher

Job Description

Kindergarten II Lead Teacher:

• Follows and revises, as needed, curriculum, creates lesson plans and activities appropriate to the developmental stage of kindergarten II (age five by August 1) students, and instructs the Kindergarten classroom in a method inspired by Waldorf Education. Supervises recess and lunch. Contract hours are from 7:30am-3:00pm Monday through Friday with teacher meetings until 4:15 on Tuesday.
• Attends teacher meetings as agreed upon by the college of teachers and Head of School.
• Maintains open communication with parents about curriculum, classroom dynamics, and individual progress. Generates meaningful parent teacher conferences and classroom email updates weekly.
• Plans and provides parent enrichment evenings and designs experiences to educate parents in Waldorf education.
• Helps plan and attends Open Houses held at City Garden School.
• Co-leads school festivals with other teachers.
• Will attend a summer professional development training.
• Will actively research and seek opportunities to learn more about nature based and Waldorf based education. 

College of Teachers - All staff teachers participate in the following:

• Responsible for the pedagogical direction of all curriculum, activities, lessons, and events of the school.
• Ensures appropriate student forms are on hand when in the classroom or on a field trip, e.g. medical release forms, allergies lists, etc. 
• School Discipline - Handles behavioral difficulties with children and calls home if needed. Teacher(s) develop an action plan with parents and Head of School for improved behavior as needed.
• Ensure that safety protocol is followed e.g. first aid kit is stocked and present, etc.
• Plans and executes festivals as a team for the entire school.
• Staff at City Garden are encouraged to participate in fundraising endeavors in order to bolster a healthy budget.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
• Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate (or ability to acquire certification within six months of employment)
• Pass background check

Preferred Qualifications:

• Waldorf certification
• Experience teaching kindergarten
• Experience teaching in an outdoor setting
