Primary Purpose

Responsible for coordinating districtwide custodial operations to ensure clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities. Oversees inventory, purchasing, equipment maintenance, laundry services, employee training, quality assurance, safety compliance, and budget support while ensuring compliance with district policies and ISSA/APPA cleaning standards.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Clear and valid Texas driver's license

Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years of custodial leadership experience
• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of custodial operations, floor care, chemicals, equipment, laundry operations, and ISSA/APPA cleaning standards
• Knowledge of OSHA, SDS, Texas Hazard Communication requirements, and applicable safety regulations
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, operating instructions, safety documents, technical manuals, and regulatory requirements to ensure district compliance
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with employees, administrators, vendors, and district leadership
• Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and computer skills
• Ability to develop and deliver employee training programs
• Ability to analyze operations, prioritize multiple assignments, and implement process improvements
• Ability to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Custodial Operations

• Coordinate districtwide custodial operations to ensure clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities
• Coordinate summer cleaning, school start-up, special projects, emergency response, and campus operational support
• Assist supervisors and campus administrators in resolving operational issues and maintaining efficient custodial services
• May manage a custodial zone in the absence of a supervisor
• Manage the laundry process, ensuring adequate training is provided for equipment/chemicals
• Order supplies for district campuses and facilities while maintaining the supply budget

Training and Employee Development

• Coordinate employee onboarding, orientation, and district custodial training
• Develop and deliver hands-on training covering cleaning procedures, equipment operation, floor care, chemical safety, ISSA/APPA standards, and safe work practices
• Assist with employee recruitment, evaluations, coaching, performance improvement, disciplinary documentation, and professional development
• Coordinate vendor training for new custodial equipment and operational procedures

Equipment, Inventory, and Purchasing

• Manage district inventories of custodial supplies, equipment, chemicals, summer clean materials, and laundry operations
• Coordinate purchasing while monitoring departmental budgets
• Evaluate custodial products and equipment and recommend replacements
• Manage preventive maintenance programs for custodial and laundry equipment
• Coordinate vendor repairs for custodial equipment
• Purchase flags for the Padgett Building

Quality Assurance and Safety

• Conduct campus inspections and quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with district cleaning standards
• Monitor custodial closets, supply inventories, and equipment condition
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, Hazard Communication, SDS requirements, district safety procedures, and chemical handling regulations
• Identify and correct unsafe conditions while promoting a safe work environment

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain and prepare departmental reports, inventories, operating procedures, training manuals, newsletters, website content, budget information, and other required documentation
• Read, interpret, and communicate district policies, operating procedures, compliance requirements, and technical information to ensure consistent implementation throughout the department
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise, evaluate, and recommend hiring and firing decisions for custodians.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; standard cleaning tools and equipment; standard yard maintenance equipment; may use small hand tools and power tools; light truck or van

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding; regular grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (1544 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over)

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, and vibration; exposure to chemical and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
