Jones Networking is currently conducting an executive search on behalf of a premier Construction and Design firm in McLean, VA, to secure a qualified Accounting Manager for their Accounting and Finance Division. Following the client's recent transition to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) structure, this position offers direct exposure to ESOP financial mechanisms. Designed for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or an active candidate for licensure, this role offers key operational leadership alongside a defined career path toward a Controller position.

Accounting Manager Roles and Responsibilities:

- Direct and Oversee Month-End Close and Financial Reporting

- Serve as the Primary Accounting Liaison for Division Leadership

- Support Executive Financial Management and ESOP Operations

Essential Responsibilities:

Direct and Oversee Month-End Close and Financial Reporting Processes:

- Direct the complete month-end closing cycle—including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accrual entries, and close checklist management—to ensure strict adherence to monthly schedules, while maintaining the general ledger and chart of accounts within Sage 300 CRE.

- Prepare and perform comprehensive reviews of financial statements prior to submission to the Chief Financial Officer, proactively identifying and resolving any reconciliation discrepancies.

Oversee Client Billing Operations and Revenue Cycle Management:

- Ensure the accuracy and prompt execution of client billing processes, collaborating with project managers to verify compliance with contractual terms and project milestones.

- Monitor accounts receivable aging metrics to maintain Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) within target thresholds and refine billing protocols to support organizational growth.

Optimize Accounting Systems and Internal Processes:

- Serve as the subject matter expert for Sage 300 CRE, establishing comprehensive documentation for critical workflows, including the period-end close checklist, billing procedures, and payroll inputs.

- Support the administrative review of payroll—encompassing commissions, bonuses, base compensation, and 401(k) contributions—and identify opportunities for process automation to enhance operational efficiency.

Provide Departmental Leadership and Team Development:

- Dedicate the initial four to six months to gaining a comprehensive understanding of organizational workflows and corporate culture prior to assuming supervisory responsibilities.

- Upon successful onboarding, direct and manage the Finance Department, establishing clear performance standards, fostering team professional development, and serving as a strategic advisor and operational backup to the President & CFO.

Serve as Principal Accounting Contact for Division Leaders:

- Serve as the primary liaison for division leaders regarding job costing, budget-to-actual variances, and financial reporting, cultivating collaborative partnerships to align accounting functions with strategic business objectives.

Support ESOP and Executive-Level Financial Operations:

- Assist with ESOP-related accounting mechanisms, including internal debt service transactions between the company and the ESOP Trust, under the guidance of the Chief Financial Officer.

- Perform ad hoc financial analysis for executive management and facilitate information requests from external auditors, lending institutions, and advisory teams for the ESOP Trustee.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Progressively assume direct oversight and managerial responsibilities for the Finance team.

Qualifications Summary:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting with a minimum of three years of progressive accounting experience; background in construction, professional services, or project-based industries preferred.

- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure are encouraged to apply.

- Proficiency in Sage 300 CRE or comparable construction/project accounting software is preferred; comprehensive training will be provided if required.

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and aptitude for utilizing enterprise artificial intelligence platforms.

- Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a proven ability to consistently meet reporting deadlines.

- Demonstrated discretion and integrity when managing confidential financial records and ESOP structure data.

- Prior supervisory or team management experience preferred.
