Radiology Technologist

Operates diagnostic radiologic equipment to produce radiographic images of the body. Utilizes specialized radiographic equipment such as Screening Mammography, Computerized Tomography, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging for diagnostic purposes. Positions patients and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimal views of specified areas of the body as requested by a physician. Explains procedures to patients to allow for understanding and cooperation while reducing anxiety. Administers appropriate pharmaceuticals, places IVs, and administers enemas as required. Practices radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices and patient shielding skills to minimize exposure. Moves radiographic equipment into specified positions and adjusts controls to set exposure factors based on established protocols. Obtains acceptable radiographic images using appropriate Computerized Radiology and CR/DR techniques. Acquires and records patient information for exam orders using the Client EMR System. Documents necessary information in patient charts as required. Performs quality control checks to ensure proper operating status and reports malfunctions as per established protocols. Maintains examination rooms and stocks necessary medical supplies according to established protocols. Exercises independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical field. Engages directly with patients and customers. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff through face-to-face interaction and communication.

Required Skills & Experience: Six months to one year of related experience. Working knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques, CR/Film screen exposure techniques, Computerized Tomography, Mammography, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Ability to properly administer pharmaceuticals intravenously for imaging procedures. Knowledge of sharps usage practices and techniques. Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to analyze data and develop knowledge or interpretations. Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively. Detail-oriented, especially in the examination of clinical and numerical data. Required Education: Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
