DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization and Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center is an academic-based facility that combines heart and vascular services. The Registered Nurse provides direct care to critical‑care patients using the nursing process in the clinic setting, develops and implements treatment plans, promotes self‑care through education, and maintains clinic equipment and supplies. The unit cares for a wide range of cardiology patients including transplants, bypass surgeries, valve replacements, and pulmonary procedures. 24‑hour physician coverage is provided. Nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 1:3 or 1:4.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide direct care to critical‑care patients in the clinic setting. Develop and implement nursing treatment plans. Educate patients to promote self‑care. Organize and maintain clinic equipment and supplies. Apply advanced nursing skills to manage high‑acuity, complex patients in a PCU setting. Utilize nursing‑sensitive indicators and clinical skills to improve quality and safety outcomes. Respond to unexpected challenges in a patient‑centered manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Resident RN licensure issued by the State of California. Current BLS/CPR and ACLS certification with commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire. At least one year of recent acute‑care RN experience in Progressive Care or Telemetry. Solid understanding of nursing‑sensitive indicators for Progressive Care or Telemetry and ability to integrate them into daily practice. Critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement interventions for complex patient conditions. Ability to handle unexpected challenges and create solutions with a patient‑centered approach. Demonstrated empathy, kindness, and effective interpersonal and communication skills. Strong communication and influencing skills with all disciplines of staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PCCN, CSC, and CMC certifications. Experience in IMU. Experience with cardiopulmonary and cardiac care.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Ability to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call and at multiple locations based on the 24‑hour Medical Center’s business needs. Employment is subject to criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.

PAY INFORMATION

Annual full pay range: $138,330 - $193,892 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly equivalent: $66.25 - $92.86.
