Under the supervision of the Manager for the Diabetes Program, this position is responsible for the development and delivery of JC Inpatient Diabetes Certification (IDC) Standards; development, implementation, and evaluation of diabetes-specific education to hospital staff; and the delivery of care and education to select patients and families.

Job Description: Minimum Training and Education: A minimum Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state, with five (5) years of RN nursing work experience required. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES) required within one year. Or a Master's degree in a nutrition focused field, and a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, with five years of clinical experience and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES) required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the state of South Carolina or compact state required. Current South Carolina licensure as a registered nurse or compact state. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. Ability to match or discriminate between colors. Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. Good peripheral vision capabilities. Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. Ability to work rotating shifts.
