Title Licensing Specialist State Role Title Admin and Office Spec III Hiring Range $47,561-$58,000 commensurate with experience Pay Band 3 Agency Dept of Health Professions Location Dept of Health Professions Agency Website Recruitment Type General Public - G Job Duties The Virginia Department of Health Profession's (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public. The Licensing Specialist provides licensure support for the Board of Medicine by managing the applicant eligibility and licensing activities for the following allied health professions: Physician Assistant, Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Assistant. The position manages the endorsement pathway and other pathways that may be established to licensure for each profession, identifies and applies established regulations necessary to analyze licensing processes and ensure that all correspondence is properly prepared and disseminated. Additionally, the Licensing Specialist maintains a high level of customer service and accurately process licensing applications and attends staff advisory meetings as necessary. Minimum Qualifications Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of Virginia laws and regulations governing medical licensure. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Considerable knowledge of office practices, principles and procedures. Demonstrated ability to independently organize and prioritize work‑flow in a fast‑paced, customer service oriented environment. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, pay close attention to detail, and complete assigned tasks within established time‑frames. Demonstrated ability to quickly develop a comprehensive knowledge of legal or technical issues, and apply this information in response to customer contacts, via phone or written correspondence. Demonstrated ability to perform quality assurance of processed documents by independently reviewing and organizing documents with extreme accuracy in a Windows‑based environment. Additional Considerations Preferred candidates will have substantial experience as licensing program specialists and demonstrate strong proficiency with data management systems commonly used in regulatory environments, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, SharePoint, BOX, and other case‑management or document‑tracking platforms. Experience performing administrative or clerical support duties, including maintaining digital records, preparing written responses to public inquiries, managing incoming telephone calls and email communications, and exercising sound judgment and discretion in the handling of confidential documents and information.
