Maintenance Technician

This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving production equipment on the manufacturing floor of a plastic molding facility. You will perform preventive maintenance and respond to breakdowns, work on extrusion lines, and support the installation and setup of machines for various products. The position involves extensive work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems as well as PLCs to keep production running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on production equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnose issues, and carry out mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Install and commission new machines and equipment for different products and production lines.
• Work directly on extrusion lines, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and within quality standards.
• Maintain and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems used throughout the production process.
• Assist with setting up production lines, including changeovers between different products and configurations.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including 3-phase motors, relays, and related components.
• Work with PLCs in support of machine operation, troubleshooting, and production line performance.
• Interpret and use blueprints and technical drawings to guide installations, repairs, and modifications.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying equipment issues and proposing maintenance solutions.
• Collaborate with production staff to minimize downtime and coordinate maintenance activities around production needs.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area around machines and production lines.

Essential Skills

• Industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Strong electrical skills, including work with 3-phase motors and 240480V systems.
• Experience with electrical components such as relays and related control devices.
• Solid mechanical skills, including troubleshooting and repairing pumps, motors, belts, and pulleys.
• Ability to perform mechanical repairs on production equipment and machinery.
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Hands-on experience working with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Familiarity with PLCs in a production or industrial setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in plastics manufacturing, particularly injection or extrusion molding, is preferred.
• Experience working on extrusion lines and related production equipment.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting and maintaining injection molding and extrusion machinery.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment with multiple lines and machines.
• Ability to support installation and setup of new machines and production lines.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, long-term position on first shift, typically running from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a 30-minute paid lunch. Some Saturday work is expected based on production needs. The work takes place in a plastic manufacturing environment, which can be hot around the machines and extrusion lines, especially when equipment is running. The facility is adding multiple new machines and lines, creating a dynamic environment with ongoing installations and upgrades. The dress code requires steel-toe footwear, jeans, and a work shirt, suitable for hands-on work around industrial equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Plaines, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
