Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Adult Skills Center (TASC) provides innovative and proactive services that empower individuals with diverse intellectual, developmental, and mental health needs to achieve their highest level of independence and realize their greatest potential. The Behavior Technician (BT) I develops/implements curriculum and instructs individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities or disadvantages in employment skills, independent living skills, and social skills while supporting the individuals to become valued members of their community. Works with a group of 1, 2, or 3 individuals in various community settings to build vocational, social, and behavioral skills. Ensures that all program individuals are present and accounted for during scheduled periods of instruction and are performing all tasks in a safe manner; is conscious of their health and safety at all times. Plans community outings and recreational activities with input from individuals. Provides curriculum, lessons, and plans to assigned instructional aides. Exhibits a friendly demeanor, establishes rapport with program individuals and acts as a positive role model for work habits and communication skills. Supervises and supports program individuals while they are learning and practicing skills at sites or in the community, including at the job site or place of residence. Models respectful treatment of individuals with disabilities in the community. Collaborates with employers and community partners to ensure partner expectations and agreements are met; takes appropriate corrective action when needed. Develops and delivers a comprehensive meaningful curriculum and provides support and instruction focused on Individual Service Plans. Assists in developing the Individual Service Plan with input from the program individual; implements the ISP, assesses program individual skills daily and weekly, provides written progress reports, and completes all paperwork in the required timeframe. Collects daily data as provided by the Support Plan. Uses critical thinking skills when supporting challenging individuals in modifying behaviors. Implements positive behavioral support programs, records data, and uses Person-Centered approaches and tools. Handles maladaptive behaviors effectively, using PCM strategies to deescalate and immobilize as necessary. Attends meetings and discusses progress of individuals served with support team members. Performs other duties as assigned, including off-site duties and participation in weekly meetings, trainings, etc. as directed by the supervisor. Qualifications Must complete BACB-approved 40-hour RBT training requirements within six months of hire. Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities desirable; requires initiative, creativity, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision; basic computer skills necessary. Must successfully complete First Aid/CPR, Core Competency Training, Direct Support Professional Training, and other required trainings. Must have a current California Driver’s license/Insurance and a clean DMV record. Must receive criminal record clearance through the DOJ. Must complete PCMA training within the first 90 days of hire. Physical Requirements Ability to drive a company and/or personal vehicle for work, including transporting clients to and from work and/or appointments as needed; maintaining a valid driver’s license and car insurance if driving required. Ability to safely perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with applicable standards. Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit; may occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; may be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Must provide physical assistance and/or push clients up to 250 lbs in a wheelchair and assist adult clients transitioning in and out of vehicles and in the restroom. Completion of Professional Crisis Management Certification within 90 days of hire (provided by TASC) is required for this position and is not recommended for those with mobility or recent fractures/surgeries or joint injuries within the past 6 months, or poor balance, flexibility, or agility.
