Transportation Assistant

Position Overview The position works with the VTS Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation and ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program. Responsibilities Coordinate transportation support duties such as: coordinating connections and scheduling, documenting travel information, collecting, compiling and tracking data on a daily basis, performing basic data analysis and generating reports, entering data into automated tracking databases, and planning and directing a program that provides support services. Qualifications Time‑In‑Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade at any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time‑in‑grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS‑06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑05. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in Federal service. An SF‑50 that shows your time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF‑50 has an effective date within the past year, an additional SF‑50 that clearly demonstrates one‑year time‑in‑grade must be provided. Time‑In‑Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement and to current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 appointments. At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS‑05) directly related to the work of the position. Coordinating connections and scheduling, documenting travel information. Collecting, compiling, and tracking data on a daily basis. Performing basic analysis of data and generating a variety of reports. Entering data into automated tracking databases. Planning and directing a program that provides support services. Including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Incumbents will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The position involves a high volume of work, frequent interruptions, and ever‑changing demands due to program changes. Duties will be predominantly performed in the Veteran Transportation Service program office with intermittent trips to various locations throughout the Medical Center's catchment area, including patient care areas where there may be a risk of exposure to disease.
