Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Unit Supervisor for the Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Unit and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, or a Licensed Vocational Nurse the Unit Secretary provides a variety of clerical activities as well as accommodative services to the adolescent, young adult, middle adult, and older adult patients admitted for medical/surgical problems. The Unit Secretary supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff and a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital. The Unit Secretary will appropriately communicate with physicians, co-workers, volunteers, other hospital departments, and patient family members. The Unit Secretary must be able to assess his/her own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development. The Unit Secretary will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and inservices. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area.

• Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the patient and their family with a focus on the developmental level of the patient and their level of understanding.
• Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the patient and their family with a focus on special precautions to minimize the potential for patient injury.
• c. Under the direct supervision of a Licensed Nurse:

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date
• Paramedic, or (NRP) Nationally Registered Paramedic, or (EMT) Emergency Medical Technician
