Chief Accounting Officer

Our client is seeking a Chief Accounting Officer to lead the firm’s global accounting organization, overseeing technical accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance across multiple reporting frameworks. This executive will serve as a key partner to Finance, Risk, Legal, and business leadership, ensuring complex transactions are appropriately interpreted, documented, and reflected in accurate, high-quality financial statements. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong leadership presence, and the ability to drive clarity and execution in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

What You’ll

Own the firm’s global technical accounting function, including evaluation and application of US GAAP and IFRS to complex and evolving business activities.

Lead the design, governance, and continuous enhancement of accounting policies, technical memos, and position papers to ensure consistency, scalability, and audit readiness.

Provide strategic accounting guidance on new initiatives, including product launches, structural changes, intercompany arrangements, and other complex transactions impacting financial results.

Ensure accurate preparation and presentation of financial statements and disclosures under applicable US GAAP and IFRS frameworks across all entities.

Oversee key accounting areas including financial instruments, consolidation, revenue recognition, leases, equity-based compensation, and impairment considerations where applicable.

Lead engagement with external auditors on technical accounting matters, resolving complex issues and driving timely conclusions during audit cycle.

Oversee accounting and reporting requirements for regulated entities, ensuring compliance with applicable US regulatory frameworks and capital reporting requirements.

Interpret and implement regulatory accounting guidance impacting statutory reporting, capital adequacy, and other regulatory obligations.

Partner closely with Compliance and Legal teams to support regulatory examinations, inquiries, and ongoing supervisory requirements.

Maintain a strong global accounting control environment, including documentation standards, review processes, and governance framework.

Drive transformation of the close and reporting process through automation, system enhancements, and process optimization initiatives.

Build, lead, and develop a high-performing accounting organization, fostering accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

Serve as the primary accounting advisor to senior Finance leadership and executive stakeholders across the firm.

Translate complex technical accounting issues into clear, actionable insights for executive decision making.

Monitor evolving accounting standards and regulatory developments, leading firm-wide implementation and change management effort.

Qualifications

15+ years of progressive experience in technical accounting, controllership, financial reporting, or accounting advisory within financial services or similarly complex environments.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred (advanced degree also preferred).

Deep expertise in US GAAP with strong working knowledge of IFRS, ideally across multi‑entity or global reporting structures.

Significant experience with US regulatory accounting and reporting in a regulated environment (e.g., broker‑dealer, bank, asset manager, or fintech), including interaction with regulators or examinations.

Proven track record leading complex technical accounting initiatives and resolving high‑stakes accounting issues.

Deep technical accounting expertise combined with strong commercial judgment.

Executive presence with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.

Highly execution‑oriented, with comfort operating in ambiguity and under tight deadlines.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including policy documentation and executive‑level presentations.

Strong ownership mindset with a focus on accuracy, control, and operational excellence.
