About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chief External Affairs Officer (CEAO) to lead its development, business development, marketing, and communications functions. The CEAO will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy, managing a growing development team, and ensuring that the organization's philanthropic, earned-revenue, and brand strategies are aligned to support national growth. This senior leadership role requires a seasoned professional with at least 10-15 years' experience in development, marketing, and business development, ideally within a mission-driven or nonprofit setting. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in building and leading a multi-year philanthropic fundraising strategy, including major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and government grants. They should also have a strong analytical orientation, experience in managing special events, and a comfort level with policy and public affairs communications. The CEAO will be a key member of the Executive Team, partnering with the CEO on strategic decision-making and policy-related communications. Personal attributes should include a deep commitment to the organization's mission and values, a proactive and decisive leadership style, and a strong focus on team-building and fostering inclusive leadership. The role is remote-first, with a preference for candidates in or near Philadelphia, PA, or Boston, MA, and will involve frequent travel to the company's offices. The ideal candidate will be a courageous communicator, a strategic thinker, and a relationship-builder, with the ability to manage up effectively and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
