ATTORNEY-ADVISOR (GENERAL)

Overview The primary purpose of this position is to support the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) as a senior attorney, providing legal advice and counsel for the most complex, often precedential, installation‑level cases in administrative law, claims, environmental law, contract law, labor law, and international law, to the 11th Wing, Pentagon Air Staff, US Space Force, and tenant units; to represent Department of the Air Force (DAF) interests in various forums and support the defense of the DAF in litigation. General Requirements Successfully completed a full course of study in an ABA‑accredited law school and hold a first professional law degree (LLB or JD). Proof, dated within four months of application, of active status with a bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, in good standing. Specialized Experience Professional legal experience in excess of two (2) years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of applicable law for the specialized areas of legal practice as determined by the SJA, to provide legal advice to command and management and represent DAF interests. Knowledge of federal, state, and local law as it impacts private individuals, to provide personal legal assistance to eligible beneficiaries across the DAF legal assistance practice. Skill in recognizing and analyzing key legal issues in factual situations and applying well‑reasoned analysis to reach clear, concise conclusions. Ability to research legal issues, analyze complex factual situations in light of general legal principles and research results, and prepare legal opinions. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, both orally and in writing, in formal and informal settings. Ability to prepare cases for trial and/or try cases before courts, administrative bodies, or other quasi‑judicial authorities. Additional Experience Part‑time or Unpaid Experience : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid or part‑time work. Specify duties, responsibilities, and total hours per week for each position held. Volunteer Work Experience : Volunteer experience through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, or social) is recognized and can provide valuable training and experience directly transferable to paid employment.
