ATTORNEY-ADVISER (GENERAL).
Air National Guard
Responsibilities A General Law Advisor advises the Chief, NGB, the Vice Chief, NGB, and the Director of the NGB Joint Staff on a host of general law matters. Incumbent acts as the lead ethics advisor to the Chief and Vice Chief, NGB, the Directors of the Army and Air National Guard and their respective staffs, and the full‑time State and Staff Judge Advocates. Incumbent provides the full range of legal services but focuses primarily on NGB’s Standards of Conduct Program. Incumbent also provides administrative law support to senior leaders and conducts legal sufficiency reviews for complex investigations and NGB Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) responses. Requirements U.S. citizenship is required. PCS will be paid IAW JTR and AF Regulations. Authorized PCS may require completion of a CONUS agreement. Males must be registered for Selective Service. Attorney appointments are subject to a one‑year probationary period. All qualified candidates who meet the recruitment assessment criteria will be considered, regardless of active duty service or veterans’ preference. Depending on the position type, a 1‑year probationary period or a 2‑year trial period may be required. Upon completion of probation or trial, employment will terminate unless written certification is received that continued employment advances the public interest. Employee must be a graduate of an ABA‑accredited law school, be a currently licensed attorney in active status, and be in good standing with a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth bar. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft. Employee may be required to work outside normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Employee may be required to file an Office of Government Ethics (OGE) Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and annually thereafter. Employee may be required to work overtime. Employee must adhere to the Air Force and Army Rules of Professional Conduct (AFI 51-110 and AR 27-26). Position may perform other related duties as assigned. Employee must obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance. This is an obligated position with return rights. This is a temporary position NTE 12‑APR‑2027. Qualifications You must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and hold a first professional law degree (LLB or JD). Provide proof of active bar status dated within four months of application. Professional legal experience of more than three (3) years commensurate with the duties and responsibilities. Knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs): Expert professional knowledge of federal Standards of Conduct, public and confidential financial disclosure reports, the Office of Government Ethics, DoD policy, federal ethics regulations, and procurement laws. Expert knowledge of legal research techniques and resource materials. Expert knowledge of the relationship between the National Guard of the 54 states, the NGB, the Department of Defense, and the Departments of the Army and Air Force. Skill in applying law to complex federal situations, performing legal analysis, and exercising legal judgment. General professional knowledge of administrative law. Ability to accurately and persuasively represent an official viewpoint before senior military and civilian personnel and to respond to guidance requests in a timely manner. Applicants will be asked to provide a writing sample demonstrating legal analytical skills. Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid or part‑time work. Candidates must clearly identify duties, responsibilities, and total hours per week.
