The Work You Will Do: Inspector II – District Four/Director of Operations / District Maintenance / West Palm Beach Maintenance-Admin/West Palm Beach Maint – Eng/Contracts This position will ensure work completed by others within FDOT right-of-way meets all standards and is permitted through the Department. This position will also be responsible for on-site inspections. This position should maintain awareness of others doing work within the right-of-way that has not been approved by the Department and not permitted. Where You Will Work: FDOT Palm Beach Operation, 7900 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL 33413 Annual Salary Range: $42,853.37 - $ 55,457.30 A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00 will be added to the annual salary. Your Specific Responsibilities: Perform independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way. Verifies that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes, and rules. Performs approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges and/or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements. Perform interpretation of governing documents related to authorized Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) device usage, installation/placement, and materials to ensure safe work zones. Reviews work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and take corrective measures when deficiencies are noted. Prepare records and reports for work completed and other related documents accurately and in a timely manner. Prepare all documentation in order to validate payments to roadway contractors. Conduct surveys of signs, guardrails, and attenuators as required by procedures. Provides survey of roadway items to be inventoried for Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI). Fills out data coding sheet and enter roadway data into computer database as needed. Gathers data and performs preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs. Assists in the preparation of maintenance contracts. Prepares specifications as needed for use in maintenance contracts. Conducts/attends pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and attends/conducts meetings with contractors/utility owners/permitees throughout life of projects as assigned. Acts as a representative of the Department on all issues related to contracts and permits. Issues work documents on contracts as directed. Performs plans reviews for constructability and adherence to Department Standards and specifications. Provides comments on Department policies and procedures as requested. The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: Performing field inspections of worksites for compliance to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) roadway standards. Entering and retrieving information from a computer database. Skills in: Communicating technical information verbally and in writing. Understanding and interpreting plans, specifications, design standards and manuals. Dealing with internal and external customers in a courteous manner. Personal computer (PC) and understanding of databases. Organizing records and handling multiple tasks and interruptions. Ability to: Remain calm and effective under pressure. Work effectively as a team member. Follow oral and written instructions. Use word processor software. Lift 50 pounds and stoop, climb, squat, push, crawl, and bend. Other Job-Related Requirements: This position requires the incumbent to complete the following self-study courses within 11 months of appointment: Construction Math and Plans Reading. Must also obtain the Advanced Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) certification and the Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector certification (Florida Department of Environmental Protection through the Stormwater, Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Training Program) within one year and maintain it. While on-duty status, may be required to drive a state owned or leased vehicle to perform the duties of this position. A Valid Class E Driver License is required. May be required to work with or around: hazardous materials, work nights and weekends and be available for emergency response work as necessary. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency. Class E Driver’s License. This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following: three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation; any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years; a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years. Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed.
