Position Details Job Title: Mechanic/Technician Hiring Department: University Unions Schedule: 40 hours per week Start Date: July 01, 2025 Location: Texas Union Building, 2308 Whitis Avenue, Austin, TX 78712 FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt Employment Type: Full‑time Work Shift Tuesday – Saturday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Occasional weekends and peak operational needs may affect this schedule. Responsibilities Repair and assess need for repairs using knowledge of commercial building construction, electrical, plumbing, and interior building construction; reading blueprints, circuit breakers, ballasts, pump motors, floor drains, water mains, steam and chill water pipes, sump pumps, walls, framing, tile, ceiling grid, and painting. Repair and maintain 12 automatic A‑2 Brunswick pinsetters and related equipment in the underground bowling alley. Collaborate with the Senior Retail Manager and Retail Manager to review general maintenance needs for the area. Clean, oil and lubricate machinery; train staff on basic repairs of the pinsetters. Maintain equipment according to pinsetter manuals; create and monitor a preventative maintenance program. Use a personal computer for email, timesheets, reports, and service work orders. Troubleshoot recurring pinsetter malfunctions; order and maintain a minimum inventory of parts. Follow fire, environmental and hazmat safety codes and regulations, including fire alarms, exhaust vents, MSDS sheets, grease traps, and warning labels, tags and signs. Maintain knowledge of compliance regulations and codes for federal, state and university requirements. Perform job responsibilities safely, ensuring the safety of students, staff and patrons regarding tools, equipment and work areas. Assist in inventory tracking of tools and equipment; ensure proper maintenance and life expectancy. Drive a university or personal vehicle for errands or transport between University Unions facilities. Required Qualifications High school graduation or GED. One year or more experience in custodial, environmental services, hospitality, warehouse, production, or facilities maintenance. Experience following basic work instructions. Ability to read and understand work orders, written instructions, product labels and instructions, and other written job materials. Demonstrated ability and willingness to be an effective team member. Flexibility is key. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. More than one year experience in any of the above listed fields. Experience working at a university. Demonstrated ability to communicate with supervisors and peer groups in a timely and effective manner. Certification in Brunswick equipment maintenance and repair. Salary $45,000+ depending on qualifications. Working Conditions May work in all weather conditions. May work around chemical fumes. May work around chemicals. Climbing of stairs. Climbing of ladders. Lifting and moving of heavy items. Driving Requirement This job requires a class “C” operator’s driver’s license and a current three‑year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees requiring a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing.
