Shift Type: Day shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, 12-hour shifts, every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday for day shift), 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule, 1 major and 1 minor holiday required

Hours per Week: 36

Candidate Pay Rate: $68.60 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, high-quality care to acute and chronic medical, cardiac telemetry, and stroke patients
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms on GE monitors, escalating changes quickly and confidently
• Administer medications, including set-rate Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin drips, with careful patient teaching on side effects
• Champion evidence-based practices like bedside shift report and intentional hourly rounding
• Manage CPAP and BiPAP support in coordination with respiratory therapy and physician orders
• Float as needed to Medical/Surgical, ICU for MST patients, ER holds, or Mercy Downtown to support the wider team
• Keep patient safety front and center at all times on a fast-paced, high-acuity unit
• Document accurately in Cerner and collaborate closely with charge nurses, break nurses, CNAs, and house supervisors

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in California, with license in hand at submission
• At least 2 years of recent acute care RN experience
• Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications
• Comfortable reading and interpreting all cardiac rhythms independently
• Cerner charting experience preferred, but we are happy to help you get up to speed
• Reliable attendance and punctuality, because this team counts on you
• Willingness to float first as a traveler and adapt to new units with a positive attitude

Education

• Common diagnosis / Types of patients "Acute/Chronic Medical Conditions, Cardiac Telemetry patients, Stroke patients, non-titratable drips. COVID patients, Forensic patients. Potential post op"
• Experience or 'Must have' skills At least 2 years' experience, Cerner experience preferred.
• Are RN's required to titrate drips No titration
• Common titratable &/or set rate drips Set rate Cardizem, Amiodarone & Heparin
• Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? GE Monitors. RNs must be able to read & interpret all cardiac rhythms.
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? House supervisor in house 24/7, Nurse Manager during normal business hours, Nurse Shift Managers + Charge Nurse OR Break Nurse each shift. If no Nurse Shift Manager, will have a Charge Nurse + Break Nurse
• Are there Nurse Aides on this unit/Ratios CNAs based on the census
• RT/Equipment (i.e., Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, vents, etc.) Cpap or Bipap (per RT & MD order)-No vents.
• Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) "12Hr shifts
• 7a-730p, 7p-730a Every shift huddle at 0700 and 1900"
• Weekend Requirements "4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule - Weekends are Fri/Sat for nights & Sat/Sun for days"
• Holiday Requirements 1 major & 1 minor minimum
• Is there Call or a Standby requirement? No Call, but can be placed on standby for low census. If placed on standby and called in they have a 30 min response time.
• Floating Requirements? Travelers are 1st to float. Can be floated to Mercy Downtown (approx 6.5 miles away). Can float to any MS/MST unit. Can float to ICU for MST patients. Can float to ER for MST holds.
• Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided? Navy blue. If you wear an undershirt under your scrub top, it must be navy, white, or black. If you wear a scrub jacket, it must also be navy. No hoodies, sweatshirts, or sweat jackets.
• Unit/Department Specific Orientation 1-2 shifts with preceptor
• Additional Notes "Warm & welcoming staff. Must uphold evidence based practices: bedside shift report, intentional hourly rounding, medication teaching including side effects. Fast paced unit with many admissions and high acuity. Any issues that compromise patient safety will not be tolerated.Very strict regarding attendance. Do not be late."
