About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Float Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evenings Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years of Emergency Department experience required License: Current nursing license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC Must-Have: 2 years of Emergency Department experience Description: Candidates are expected to float throughout the designated zone. Each zone covers a 60-mile radius from the city center. Travelers are responsible for obtaining housing that meets these requirements. Travelers cannot miss more than 3 shifts in a 13-week contract. A two-week notice is required to avoid a back-out penalty fee. Regular schedules are released 4 to 6 weeks in advance. The facility may assign shifts 1 to 2 hours before the start time. Work environment varies, with trauma level varying by location. Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:5 based on acuity. On average, the emergency department treats 40 to 168 patients per day. The department supports the nursing staff with various roles such as techs and aids. Registered Nurses are expected to have the ability to read and interpret telemetry. Shifts are 12 hours, and the schedule is made by leadership. Weekend requirements entail working every other weekend. Holiday requirements involve working every other holiday. Floating to various locations within the zone is mandatory. Additional responsibilities may include performing point-of-care lab testing. The nursing staff is expected to be flexible and assist in filling gaps within the schedule.
