The Collections Manager will have a strong background in collections, with a focus on collections for unsubmitted local tax returns across various tax types, including sales use, tobacco, business license, and others. This position is responsible for driving the collection process, improving team performance, and ensuring tax compliance while maintaining positive relationships with clients.

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 20-25 collections specialists.
• Oversee the collection of unsubmitted local tax returns for various tax types, including sales and use tax, tobacco tax, business license, and others.
• Submit placements to a third-party vendor for external collection efforts as needed.
• Monitor and drive team performance metrics to ensure efficient, effective, and budgeted collections.
• Work with internal teams to identify and resolve collection issues.
• Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to tax collections.
• Assist in the development and execution of strategies to improve collection rates and reduce aged receivables.
• Collaborate with other departments to streamline processes and enhance the overall collection strategy.
• Provide ongoing training and development for the collections team.
• Track and report on team performance, setting goals and improving overall productivity.

• Ad hoc duties as assigned. 
• Partnering with IT to ensure systems accuracy, including testing and supporting developmental changes and updates to the system.
• Occasional overtime/weekends
• Partnering with internal departments to ensure the highest standards of customer service and client satisfaction.
• Motivating and monitoring monthly budget goals to ensure goals are reached.
• Developing and maintaining incentive programs reporting outcomes to Director of Operations and VP.
• Coaching and counseling of direct reports
• Training and cross-training of current and new staff to improve productivity and collections.
• Working closely with the third-party collections companies to ensure collection efforts are productive and assist with any updates to correspondence.
• Weekly, monthly, annual reporting of goals and productivity
• Annual performance reviews of staff
• Working directly with clients to ensure timely receipts of requested data.

• 5+ years of experience in collections, with at least 3 years in management or leadership role.
• Proven experience with collections in tax-related areas such as sales use, tobacco, business licenses, or similar.
• Strong understanding of collection practices and regulations.
• Experience in managing a team and driving performance metrics.
• Understanding audits is beneficial but not required.
• Knowledge of Alabama Taxpayer Bill of rights and Alabama Title 40 preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a diverse team.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism
• Proficient in MS Office Suite including TEAMS/MS Word/Outlook
• Advanced Excel Capabilities, including Pivot Tables/Vlookups 

• A typical office environment with moderate noise level.
• Standard office setting with regular computer use.
• Requires occasional movement throughout the office and frequent phone communication.
• Occasional overtime required
