Research Assistant - Unmasked

Overview Retina Consultants of Texas (RCTX) is looking for an Unmasked Research Assistant to support patient visits and research activities in line with ICH‑GCP guidelines and the IRB‑approved study protocol. The role will be based at our Bellaire location and involve assisting in the day‑to‑day operations of clinical research. Candidates will work the Research Department hours of 6:30 am–5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with schedules determined by provider clinics and study obligations. Responsibilities Conduct aseptic and sterile field techniques safely and appropriately. Assist the Coordinator in monitoring subject flow and managing subject care. Observe, assist, collect, and record all necessary data during follow‑up visits (e.g., adverse events, concomitant medications) for Phase2 &3 studies (excluding gene therapy). Ensure the treatment room is fully stocked with ancillary supplies before each day. Explain treatment processes and procedures to study subjects. Set up, prepare the subject, and assist in the administration of treatment according to protocol and pharmacy/procedure manual. Promptly report treatment‑related adverse events, including medication errors, to an appropriate unmasked RA (LevelII/III preferred). Assist in the collection of aqueous humor samples for analysis. Perform intraocular pressure checks after injections. Carry out post‑treatment procedures such as finger count, hand motion, and light perception tests. Monitor on‑site temperature for all equipment and document daily logs as applicable. Perform daily calibration of tonopen devices. Perform other duties as assigned. Obtain any applicable additional or required sponsor training and/or certifications. Ensure all instruments used by the UM team are accounted for and properly sterilized. Qualifications Skills & Competencies Knowledge of eye anatomy, ocular disease, symptoms, and ocular medications. Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage workflow independently. Meticulous attention to detail. Initiative and the ability to prioritize tasks quickly. High‑level critical thinking skills. Cooperative and professional interaction with supervisory staff, physicians, peers, external customers, and patients. Excellent communication skills, both personal and written. Strong organizational and time‑management skills, including multi‑tasking. Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalency, with a minimum of 3 years of ophthalmology experience. College degree preferred. Physical Demands Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to write. Ability to hold arms at shoulder height. Ability to communicate via telephone.
