School Nurse - Substitute (Per Diem)Type: School NurseSalary: Per School Nurse Collective Bargaining AgreementReports To: Building Principal and Supervisor of NursesEssential Duties and Responsibilities1. Schedules and is present at all school health services, including all physical examinations, all immunization clinics, vision and hearing rechecks, scoliosis rechecks, pediculosis checks, hepatitis checks, etc.2. Maintains up-to-date health records3. Assumes responsibility for informing faculty and staff of those students with special health problems, i.e. life threatening allergies, diabetic, heart, petit mal, etc.4. Interprets health status of a student to his/her parents and school personnel without breaching confidentiality.5. Observes students on a regular basis to determine health needs6. Authorizes the exclusion and/or readmission of students with contagious or infectious diseases7. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures8. Administers medications when necessary9. Secures all medications10. Assists principal in establishing sanitary conditions within the school11. Serves as a health consultant and resource person for the classroom teacher conducting health related classes when requested12. Contacts and visits homes of children referred by principal where related counseling is required13. Maintains adequate first aid supplies in each school14. Attends IDEA evaluation and reevaluation meetings15. Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of the individual student through the IDEA and 504 process16. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness17. Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and health curriculum including Safety Committee18. Participates in in-service training programs19. Prepares and submits reports as requested by the Supervisor of Nurses, Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services and the Superintendent of Schools as required20. Makes formal referrals to specialists when appropriate and conducts follow-up or referrals21. Works with the community health agencies when necessary22. Assists in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives of the school department23. Performs other duties as directed by the Supervisor of Nurses, Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services and the Superintendent of SchoolsADA & Minimum Qualifications to Perform Essential Job FunctionsPhysical Requirements: Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, adding machines, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Must be able to stand, crouch and bend over for a long period of time at intervals throughout the day.Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.Interpersonal Communications: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
