Medical Laboratory Scientist

Medical Laboratory Scientist Irving, TX – 5 Months. Local contract starts 7/16/2026 (24 weeks). 3rd shift, 2:00 am–10:30 am Central Time, Tuesday–Saturday. ASCP licensed. Experience in hematology and slide reading required. Job Responsibilities Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and record‑keeping of patient test results. Maintain records proving proficiency testing samples are processed like patient specimens. Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures per department SOPs. Review and release test results. Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines. Adhere to quality‑control policies; document QC activities, instrument/calibration logs, and maintenance. Follow established policies when test systems are out of acceptable performance. Identify and correct problems that may affect test performance or reporting, or notify the senior technologist or supervisor. Document corrective actions for deviations from performance specifications. Report STAT or critical results to clients per department procedure. Answer questions from customers or other lab personnel. Maintain complete records of all onsite testing. Maintain general appearance of the department. Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and opening dates. Review and train on new procedures. Attend monthly department and additional training/educational meetings. Participate in safety training sessions; know the location/content of the safety manual and all safety equipment. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections if needed. Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor. Required Knowledge & Qualifications A solid understanding of basic laboratory testing is required. The candidate must possess good computer skills and be able to work in multiple computer systems. Knowledge of QC and QA, and of all laboratory areas, is essential. Education BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology; or Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; or previously qualified as a technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14, 1990). Foreign‑educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF. U.S. candidates must provide a detailed original transcript. Candidates should be eligible for national certification as an MT/MLT from a recognized organization (ASCP or AMT). Work Experience 1 year of clinical experience (high‑complexity testing) preferred. Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in highly complex testing for those with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology. National and State licensure as required. Special Requirements Prioritize work and handle several procedures simultaneously. Interact with other departments. Client contact may be required; strong customer‑service skills are important.
