FUTURE SALARY INCREASES

June 2027 – 4.49% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board + 1.49% Market Adjustment) The County Counsel’s Office generally supports remote teleworking and a teleworking schedule with a mix of in-office and remote work may be available for this position. Confidential Paralegals assist in discovery, motion practice and trial preparation of litigation and associated cases, and trial support during trial. The ideal candidate is an experienced paralegal who functions effectively in a busy legal office; works with a high degree of autonomy and independence; and is a quick learner, capable of performing a wide range of paralegal duties. The ideal candidate can also work in a fast-paced environment with responsibility for an assigned case load- someone with experience preparing for, and participating in, jury trials. Helpful skills include knowledge of federal, state and local court rules; the ability to use Excel, Word, case management systems, SharePoint and OneDrive, as well as experience; drafting discovery; case summaries and some motion practice, as well as the ability to propose case specific discovery strategies. Desirable traits for a Confidential Paralegal include: effective communication, innovative, analytical worker, client focused, values and respects others, drives to excel, teamwork and collaboration, continuous learning, demonstrates ethical behavior, supports change, and performs duties consistent with supervisor feedback. Hiring Timelines and Dates Interviews, Job Offers, and Background Process begin shortly after recruitment is closed. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results. Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon. Minimum Qualifications Completion of an American Bar Association accredited paralegal program (In order for this certification to qualify you MUSTsubmit a copy of your certification with your application); OR, Eighteen (18) months of experience performing paralegal work in a public or private law office. IMPORTANT NOTE: Legal secretarial or clerical experience is not considered paralegal work for purposes of meeting the minimum qualifications. The practice of law by a licensed attorney is also not considered paralegal experience. Paralegal is defined in the California Business and Professions Code, Section 6450. Required Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Positions may involve necessary and timely transportation for field travel, requiring the ability to arrange transportation to different worksites, meetings, or field work.
