Orthopedic Oncology Physician Assistant (PA) - Surgical Specialty (Operative)

The Orthopedic Oncology Physician Assistant (PA) - Surgical Specialty (Operative) is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who delivers specialized care to patients with musculoskeletal tumors and oncologic conditions. This role includes prescriptive authority and is credentialed and privileged as an independent provider recognized by Medicare and Medicaid.

This position focuses on the evaluation, surgical management, and longitudinal care of patients with benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors. The PA collaborates closely with orthopedic oncology surgeons and a multidisciplinary cancer care team, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and radiology, to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care across the continuum.

Key responsibilities include performing comprehensive and focused assessments of patients with suspected or confirmed musculoskeletal tumors, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, assisting in complex orthopedic oncology surgical procedures, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, managing pre-operative and post-operative care, monitoring for complications, educating patients and families, coordinating care across multidisciplinary teams, maintaining accurate documentation, participating in tumor boards, and providing call coverage and support inpatient or emergency consultations as needed.

Essential qualifications include a graduate degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program, current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas, current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer. Preferred experience includes a minimum of 2 years in orthopedic surgery, oncology, surgical specialties, or related fields.
