VP of Communications and Mission Impact
VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA SOUTH CENTRAL LOUISIANA
Job Description
Job Description
Vice President of Communications and Mission Impact
About Volunteers of America South Central Louisiana
Founded in 1896, Volunteers of America is one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive human services organizations, built on a faith-based ministry of service. Volunteers of America South Central Louisiana carries that founding mission across a 27-parish service area, reaching approximately 38,000 people each year.
VOASCLA's programs meet people at the points where life is hardest and hope is most needed, children and families, early childhood and childcare, behavioral health, developmental disabilities, senior services, veterans, housing and homelessness, and community-based support. The organization serves without regard to background or belief, and it measures itself by whether lives are changed.
VOASCLA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, supported by Regional Advisory Committees across the service area, and led by a President & Chief Executive Officer and an Executive Leadership Team. The Office of Advancement and Mission Impact is a strategic investment in the organization's next era of growth.
The Opportunity
Volunteers of America South Central Louisiana is entering the most ambitious chapter in its modern history. The 2025–2030 Strategic Plan — Strategic Growth & Vision: Unlocking Potential, Driving Innovation, commits the organization to diversifying revenue, deepening community trust, and telling the story of its impact with the same rigor it brings to service delivery. Strategic Pillar 6 makes that commitment explicit.
To meet it, VOASCLA is standing up a unified Office of Advancement and Mission Impact that brings mission measurement, brand and communications, and philanthropy under one roof, and one strategy. The Vice President of Communications and Mission Impact is the leader who turns strategy into operating reality.
This is a senior leadership operating role with a mandate of its own. The Senior Vice President of Philanthropy Advancement sets direction, carries the organization's most significant donor relationships, and represents VOASCLA in the rooms where transformational gifts are decided. The Vice President of Communications and Mission Impact builds and runs the engine underneath: the systems, the agenda, the data, the content, the team, and the disciplined execution that make the strategy credible to donors, funders, partners, and the people VOASCLA serves.
This is the leader the Office turns to when the Senior Vice President is on the road, chairing the meetings, clearing the obstacles, protecting the standards, and keeping every commitment on schedule.
VOASCLA is also positioned to activate meaningful new revenue, including the Louisiana Workforce Child Care Tax Credit, a fully refundable credit with a December 31 filing deadline that pairs a compelling business case with immediate community benefit. Converting opportunities like this into sustained, repeatable revenue requires exactly the blend of communications discipline and advancement operations this role provides.
Position Summary
The Vice President of Communications and Mission Impact provides senior operating leadership for the Office of Advancement and Mission Impact, with integrated accountability across three connected disciplines: mission impact measurement and storytelling, marketing and communications, and advancement operations and donor experience.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Philanthropy and Advancement, the Vice President translates strategy into annual operating plans, supervises the Office's management team, owns the systems and data that make philanthropy repeatable, and ensures that every public expression of the VOASCLA brand is accurate, dignified, and mission true.
The Vice President works in close partnership with Program and Regional Leadership, Operations, Accounting, Human Resources, and Ministry to ensure that what VOASCLA says publicly is grounded in what VOASCLA delivers, and that what VOASCLA delivers is documented well enough to fund.
Primary Responsibilities
The Vice President carries six areas of accountability, each measurable and each reviewed formally with the Senior Vice President of Advancement and Mission Impact on a quarterly basis.
- Mission Impact Measurement & Storytelling
Build the evidence base that proves VOASCLA changes lives, and translate it into language donors, funders, and the community understand.
- Marketing, Communications & Brand Stewardship
Steward the VOASCLA brand and run a coordinated communications program across every channel and region.
- Advancement Operations & Donor Experience
Own the infrastructure that makes philanthropy repeatable, accurate, and donor centered.
- Annual Giving, Campaign & Event Execution
Execute the revenue programs that build the base beneath transformational giving.
- Grants, Institutional Partnerships & Public Funding
Convert institutional relationships into sustained, well-documented revenue.
- Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Alignment
Build a high-performing Office and keep it connected to the rest of the organization.
