Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field, active Deaf & Hard of Hearing (DHH) certification, and 1+ years Deaf & Hard of Hearing Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist. In this contract role, you will use your expertise to support young learners, collaborating closely with educators and families to facilitate communication and academic growth. This rewarding position is designed for caring professionals who are passionate about education and fluent in tools and methods that empower students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Key Qualifications:
- Professional experience as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or Teacher for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Ability to effectively communicate with students who are deaf or hard of hearing using various tools and methods
- Current teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (where required)
- Knowledge of assessment and intervention strategies for students with hearing loss
- Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills for working with students, staff, and families
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, 20 hours per week
- Adapt curriculum materials to meet each student’s communication needs and learning style
- Assess student progress and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Advocate for accommodations and support in general education settings
- Work alongside teachers and staff to provide resources and guidance on best practices
- Communicate regularly with families, keeping them informed on student progress and strategies for support
