University of Denver - DU - Community Commons and the job listing Expires on August 30, 2026 Events Team Assistant – Student Center Operations, Driscoll & Community Commons Salary Range Position Number Classification Exempt or Non-exempt Non-exempt Work Schedule The Driscoll & Community Commons building hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00am-10:00pm, and Saturday – Sunday, 8am-10pm. Due to housing central dining, The Driscoll & Community Commons remains open during inclement weather days with the expectation for the Welcome Desk to be staffed within reason. This position requires employees to work onsite between the hours of 7am and 10:30pm, with average shifts ranging from 2-3 hours. Some weekend and holiday shifts are required. The expectation for the Events Team Assistant is to be available on campus for work starting August 17th to attend training before classes start for Fall Quarter. Staff are expected to support student Hallmark, Traditions and other programs throughout the year (i.e. Discoveries Orientation, Homecoming, Family Weekend). Working Environment: Standard office environment, unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high, noise level is quiet to moderate. Physical Activities: Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time and stand to greet guests. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 35 lbs. Our mission is to be the campus living room and provide a sense of belonging for all guests. Position Summary The Student Center Operations Events Team is responsible for assisting Student Organizations, students, staff and faculty in reserving space in 25Live (University scheduling software) for the DCC, the Campus Green, The Bridge and for outdoor tabling. As an Events Assistant, you will work with all campus groups and departments to confirm their reservation, event details such as setup, A/V and catering needs, and ensure they receive exemplary service in planning their events. Additionally, Event Assistants will get cross‑trained on basic Operations Team responsibilities to fill in when they step away from the Welcome Desk. There is a mandatory all staff trainings on the Friday night and all-day Saturday of week 1, followed by an afternoon training during the 1st week of classes in Winter & Spring Quarters. Additionally, we host bi‑weekly staff meetings during each of the quarters. This position summary is not designed to capture all activities, duties, or responsibilities required for this position. Essential Functions Use 25Live, various online platforms, phone, and email, to answer guest questions and work with other university departments to confirm event logistics. Be knowledgeable of all Community Commons event and meeting spaces, their setup options and capacities. Monitor and respond to emails each shift. Update the Task‑List Tracker. Process and approve/deny reservation requests for event/meeting spaces under the DCC purview. Assist student orgs with creating event setup diagrams, placing work orders, and planning out any event logistics. Utilize positive customer service practices to maintain professional working relationships with the campus community. Perform all duties according to the procedures and policies laid out in the DCC Events Team Handbook. Host weekly in‑person drop‑in hours for event support. Provide information on event spaces, meeting rooms, pricing, etc. to guests. Assist with daily conversions when needed. Attend all required trainings and bi‑weekly staff other meetings. Familiarize yourself with the policies of the DCC Team and ensure the policies are professionally executed. Have a quarterly 4D Reflection with your supervisor. Crosstrain to support Welcome Desk operations as needed. Complete additional projects or tasks as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work effectively in a diverse organization and efficiently manage multiple tasks. Individual must have excellent people and communication skills, and function effectively in a high traffic work environment. Ability to work well in a team setting, as well as independently with minimum supervision. Good judgment, problem solving skills and discretion are critical. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds.
