Position Details Virus Lead Tech – Manufacturing – Omaha, NE – Vaccines Site Hourly rate: $23.00 – $25.00 per hour. This role is responsible for the growth and maintenance of cells and virus cultures used in the manufacture of viral vaccines, including cell passages, viral inoculations, harvests, and inactivations, performed in strict compliance with SOPs and USDA regulations. The position may require evening, weekend, and holiday work. Key Responsibilities Perform laboratory procedures in an aseptic environment per SOPs and production outlines. Prepare media for cell and virus growth using calibrated tools. Conduct cell passages in roller bottles as per SOPs. Perform daily cell counts and calculations. Freeze down new cell stocks and retrieve frozen inventory to start production runs. Manage virus freezer and cooler inventory. Conduct monthly environmental air testing and chemical inventory. Produce virus antigens, including inoculation, harvest, and inactivation. Accurately complete batch records and documentation. Check for expired reagents and dispose of them. Order new equipment and department components. Maintain laboratory cleanliness and following SOPs for waste disposal. Conduct routine equipment monitoring and cleaning. Follow all safety guidelines and procedures. Assist in SOP preparation and training of new personnel. Enter data into JDE daily and maintain accurate logs. Manage individual schedule and assigned lab work. Perform environmental monitoring of the area as required. Conduct data entry accurately and timely. Remain standing during long periods in aseptic apparel, which may include a TyVek suit and respirator. Recommend equipment and process improvements to increase efficiency or safety. Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment such as microscopes, pH meters, pipettors, and scales is preferred. Key Competencies & Requirements Education and/or Experience : Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with five years of related experience. Minimum: Associate degree with three or more years of related experience. Reasoning Ability : Ability to listen and interpret instructions in written, oral, or schedule form; ability to solve practical problems. Skills : Proficient reading, writing, and organization in English; basic math, scientific notation, metric system; Microsoft Excel proficiency. Physical Demands Stand and bend for long periods; lift up to 30 lbs and maneuver carts up to 110 lbs occasionally; stoop, reach, grasp, perform repetitive motions; good vision for measurements and hand-eye coordination. Work Environment Aseptic area requiring sterile gown or TyVek suit and possibly a respirator.
