Job Description

The Maintenance Reliability Engineer improves equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness by transforming downtime events, work order history, and equipment performance data into practical, proactive maintenance plans. This role focuses on identifying recurring failures, developing preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, and guiding the maintenance organization from reactive repairs to a planned, data-driven maintenance program within a growing manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Analyze equipment downtime, failure history, work orders, and performance data to identify recurring issues and opportunities to improve reliability.

• Develop detailed maintenance job plans that clearly define labor requirements, task steps, safety needs, parts, tools, drawings, manuals, and estimated completion times.

• Create and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance activities based on failure patterns, equipment criticality, and manufacturer recommendations.

• Ensure all parts, materials, documentation, and other required resources are available before maintenance work is scheduled and executed.

• Partner closely with maintenance technicians, production leaders, and engineering personnel to prioritize maintenance work and improve equipment availability.

• Review completed work orders for accuracy, quality of execution, follow-up needs, and opportunities to refine and improve future job plans.

• Support root cause analysis for recurring failures and document corrective actions that enhance equipment reliability and maintainability.

• Maintain accurate equipment records, bills of material, asset information, maintenance procedures, and work order data within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

• Support CMMS reporting, data cleanup, system improvements, and user training to strengthen maintenance planning and execution.

• Track and report maintenance performance indicators such as downtime, repeat failures, percentage of planned work, preventive maintenance completion, and schedule effectiveness.

• Recommend improvements to equipment, processes, or maintenance strategies that reduce cost, risk, and unplanned downtime.

• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by applying reliability engineering, lean manufacturing, and total productive maintenance (TPM) principles where applicable.

Essential Skills

• Experience in maintenance engineering, reliability engineering, maintenance planning, or manufacturing equipment support.

• Experience analyzing equipment downtime, work order history, and performance data to drive maintenance decisions.

• Working knowledge of preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, root cause analysis, and core reliability engineering principles.

• Hands-on experience with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and strong ability to organize maintenance information and technical documentation.

• Ability to read and interpret equipment drawings, manuals, schematics, and technical specifications.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams.

• Proficiency in reliability-focused problem solving, including identifying recurring failures and implementing corrective actions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.

• Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and the ability to apply continuous improvement methods in a production environment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Burlington, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50000.00 - $60000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
