Controller – Construction Industry Location: Scotch Plains, NJ (Onsite) A growing construction-related organization in the Scotch Plains, NJ area is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader with strong construction industry experience who enjoys partnering with operations while driving financial performance and process improvements. Responsibilities Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, job costing, inventory, and fixed assets Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and management reporting Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal controls Oversee job costing, WIP reporting, inventory valuation, and margin analysis Coordinate external audits and maintain relationships with CPA firms Lead and mentor the accounting team while improving processes and workflows Partner with project management and executive leadership to provide financial insights and operational support Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance CPA or CPA-eligible preferred 5+ years of accounting experience within the construction industry Strong knowledge of job costing and WIP reporting Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Index/Match, and financial modeling ERP experience required; Vista Viewpoint is highly preferred Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Ability to collaborate across accounting and project operations in a fast-paced environment This is an outstanding opportunity for a construction accounting professional looking to take on a leadership role with a growing organization that values collaboration, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
