Location: Baltimore, MD/In-Office

Compensation: $125,000 – $135,000 base salary, plus a comprehensive benefits package

The Controller will act as the senior financial leader for a well-established nonprofit organization based in Baltimore, MD. This Controller will oversee all financial functions, strengthen internal processes, and ensure accurate, compliant, and timely financial reporting. This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on execution and is ideal for a professional who enjoys improving systems, building efficiencies, and driving financial excellence.

Controller Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, audit coordination, and regulatory compliance
• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, balancing day-to-day execution with strategic priorities
• Assess and improve financial systems and workflows, including automation and integration initiatives
• Collaborate with executive leadership and the Board on budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and the Finance Committee
• Provide financial insight and cross-functional support, including partnership with HR and facilities

Controller Qualifications

• BS degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, etc.
• 5-10+ years accounting experience within non-profit or mission-driven organization
• 3+ years of leadership experience
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting practices and systems
• Track record of improving processes, strengthening controls, and implementing system upgrades
• Strategic mindset with a hands-on, detail-oriented approach
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and board members
