Project durations vary from a few days to several months, with travel across North America. This is a travel-based role and you will be expected to travel to meet the requirements of your projects across North America, upwards of 75% or more.As a Systems Engineer in RDPI, you will be overseeing large scale project planning, installation, and launch of industrial automation technologies across Amazons growing Stores network. This field engineering position demands strong technical skills for deploying robotic equipment, including mechanical and electrical systems, network configurations, and software coordination. The ideal candidate has experience with complex electro-mechanical and network systems, demonstrating leadership in installation, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting of technologies being deployed across North America. You will work with cross-functional partners across our engineering, product strategy, software, supply chain, third-party installers, contracted deployment engineers, construction teams, and internal operations customer teams, functioning as the lead on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on installation Amazon-designed automation equipment. This Systems Engineer position is an individual contributor role, influencing and leading stakeholders from planning through go-live of each project. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully leading multiple concurrent projects across one or more automation solutions.**Relocation to Amazon Corporate offices in Seattle, Boston, Nashville or Austin will be required for the role.Key job responsibilitiesAs a Systems Engineer I, you will work with a team of 1-5 engineers and collaborate with an on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on the installation of both third party and Amazon designed robotics equipment that may be in various phases of the product life cycle. These deployments require extensive collaboration with various stakeholders, including third-party installers, contracted engineers, construction, hardware, software, IT, and other partner teams. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with both internal and external partners and customers. As an Amazonian, you must demonstrate independent initiative to identify and solve problems in real time during deployments. The team is multi-disciplinary, and consists of Field Deployment Engineers, Controls Engineering, Design for Deployment, Product Single Threaded Leaders, and a Program Management Office team, who collaborate on enabling the delivery of new technologies and packaging solutions that delight our customers, and improve the safety, quality and costs within the Amazon fulfillment processes. The team is geographically located across four North America hub locations. The work we deliver directly impact high priority goals set each year to our most senior leadership at Amazon.Basic qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical degree or related experience- 1+ year’s experience with technical drawings and/or reading CAD models (mechanical and electrical)- 1+ year’s Experience working on mechanical, electrical, IT networked, or software systems- Understanding of data collection, reporting processes, and ability to make data-driven decisions- Ability to read technical drawings and/or reading CAD models to resolve on-site clash issues using 3D clash detection reports- Ability to troubleshoot robotics systems to resolve escalations including quality hand-off, live order testing, site acceptance testing, operational readiness testing, monitoring robotics system performance, etc.- Ability to read and develop technical documentation and process instructions- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment- Willingness to work primarily in a construction or warehouse environment in a field-based role and travel extensively across the US and potentially internationally- Must be proficient in standard office software tools and processesPreferred qualification - Experience in network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, 1-3 years of experience working in a field engineering, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse environment- Proven experience working on hardware integration or complex mechanical-electrical or networked industrial equipment. Knowledge of specific robotic equipment (Fanuc, ABB), and Allen Bradley PLC experience- Ability to demonstrate past use of data to drive decision making processes- Ability to take independent initiative when presented with a business need- Certified in OSHA, ANSI, or other Automation Safety Certifications.
