Legal Process Clerk I/II-Extra Help

Position Overview Legal Process Clerk I & II – Shasta County Public Defender’s Office. Salary approx $18.54–$23.68 per hour for Clerk I and $19.67–$25.10 per hour for Clerk II. About the Position Legal Process Clerk I: Under supervision, accept, process, and type legal documents; perform related tasks as required. Legal Process Clerk II: Under general supervision, accept, process, and type legal documents; perform related tasks as required. Primary Responsibilities Receive, process, and type legal documents for filing in criminal, civil, juvenile, family law, child support, and probate actions. Examine documents for jurisdiction, accuracy, and completeness; enter actions into the register; initial case calendaring. Issue subpoenas, summonses, writs of execution, possession, attachment, and seizure documents. Index and cross‑index proceedings; search records for prior actions. Answer questions for attorneys and the public; maintain confidentiality of client and case information. Perform data entry, file reports, and maintain booking reports. Assist in gathering information from agencies and courts; prepare court calendars. For Clerk II: maintain trust account ledgers and perform all duties of Clerk I. Qualifications and Competencies Knowledge of office procedures, business English, and relevant statutes as applicable. Ability to operate office equipment, type at minimum 45 words per minute, perform data entry with at least 6000 kph and 95% accuracy. Strong communication, problem‑solving, and discretion with confidential information. Experience with case management systems and high‑volume administrative workflows desirable. Minimum Qualifications Legal Process Clerk I: One (1) year of paid or unpaid experience in office support, processing or typing documents. Legal Process Clerk II: One (1) year of experience comparable to a Clerk I with Shasta County. Special Requirements Position may require possession of a valid California driver’s license and automobile insurability for County business. Eligibility for non‑licensed applicants will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis for disability accommodations.
