About the Department The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics competes at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics with the vision to reach Next Level Success for all 18 varsity teams and more than 450 student-athletes. The Bearcats have a proud athletics history, winning eight national championships and 118 conference titles. The Cincinnati men's basketball team is among the 15 winningest programs all-time, while the football team became the first non-Power Five program to compete in the College Football Playoff in 2021. Olympic gold medalist volleyball player Jordan Thompson, NBA Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson and Major League Baseball legend Sandy Koufax are among the several luminaries who have competed as Bearcats. For more information visit gobearcats.com. Job Overview The University of Cincinnati, Department of Athletics is seeking applicants for a Sports Information Officer. The position will serve as primary public relations contact for the football program, directing all external communications and media relations efforts. This includes acting as the program spokesperson, managing relationships with media and television partners, and developing proactive storytelling and branding strategies. The successful candidate will be appointed at the Sr. Director (Sports Information Officer) or Asst AD (Assistant Director Athletics) level depending on their skills and qualifications. Essential Functions Contribute, plan and execute public relations initiatives for assigned unit or program. Create editorial content for online and social media platforms including but not limited to media guides, news releases, feature stories and graphics. Proactively pursue new, creative and innovative methods for enhancing the unit or programs' brand and media presence, including continued awareness of trends in visual communications, emerging media, earned media, social media and digital technologies. Contact writers, broadcasters, editors to place stories. Act as liaison with news media, field media inquiries and arrange press conferences. Represent the unit or program in designated activities. Coordinate and schedule personnel support during events. Assist in developing administrative guidelines and procedures for the unit. Administer and monitor expenditures. May maintain current and historical information on unit or program. May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.). Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time. Sr. Director Required Education Bachelor's Degree Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. Required Experience Three (3) years of experience in public relations or publications or related field. Experience may require supervision.

Assistant AD Required Education Bachelor's Degree Nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. Required Experience Five (5) years of experience in athletic administration. Additional Qualifications Considered Proficiency in creative and statistical software. Experience mentoring and leading student interns. Self-motivated and proactive and ready to work as part of a small team. The ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure. Good interpersonal, organizational and planning skills. Attention to detail. A willingness to work outside normal working hours when necessary and travel with teams.
