Director of Finance

Washington, DC Metro Area | Hybrid Salary: $140,000–$160,000, DOE + Outstanding Benefits Make an Impact Through Financial Leadership Our client, a respected and growing environmental nonprofit organization in the Washington, DC area, is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead and strengthen its finance and accounting operations. This newly created position reflects the organization’s continued growth and expanding funding sources, including an increasing portfolio of federal grant awards. This is an outstanding opportunity for a nonprofit finance leader who enjoys both strategic financial leadership and hands-on operational accounting within a mission-driven organization making a measurable impact throughout the region. Position Summary Reporting to executive leadership, the Director of Finance will oversee all financial operations, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, internal controls, grant financial management, audits, and day-to-day accounting activities. The Director will supervise a small accounting team while partnering closely with leadership on financial planning and organizational growth. Primary Responsibilities Lead all accounting and finance operations in accordance with GAAP. Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting. Manage budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning. Strengthen internal controls and financial processes. Oversee annual audit and Form 990 preparation. Manage grant accounting, reporting and compliance. Ensure compliance with federal, state and private funding requirements. Supervise and mentor accounting staff. Partner with executive leadership on strategic financial planning. Support Board and Finance Committee reporting. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred). 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience. 5+ years of nonprofit accounting leadership experience preferred. Experience with nonprofit financial statements, restricted funds and grant accounting. Federal grant accounting experience is highly desirable. Experience managing audits and Form 990 preparation. Strong budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis skills. Intacct exp preferred and advanced Excel skills required Excellent communication and leadership abilities. Why Consider This Opportunity?
