Job Summary:

The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager is responsible for leading the company's financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis functions. This strategic role owns budgeting and performance analysis, forecasting, and business analytics across the platform and is the primary analytical partner to the leadership team. The individual provides actionable insights to leadership, drives performance through data, and supports decision-making that aligns with company objectives. The ideal candidate possesses deep financial expertise, outstanding analytical abilities, and proven proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Preference for NetSuite experience and business intelligence software (e.g., PowerDB)., ELT automation and/or artificial intelligence platforms (e.g., Claude), and quantitative modeling and deep learning technique experience is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Directly supervises the Financial Planning and Analysis Analyst and grows the team as the platform scales; operates as a player-coach who builds models and pulls data personally rather than routing all analytical work to staff.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Financial Planning & Forecasting

• Build and own the annual budget, the rolling forecast, and the long-range plan across all subsidiaries in NetSuite OneWorld, consolidated across entities and multiple currencies.
• Own revenue forecasting driven by backlog, awarded work, and pipeline, tying job-level schedules to the consolidated Income Statement and contract accounting results from the financial operations department.
• Own the multi-factor cash flow forecast and the 13-week liquidity view, including Accounts Receivable collection timing, financial operations billing cycles, capital expenditures, and debt service.
• Produce budget-to-actual and forecast-to-forecast bridges that explain the change in plain language, not just a column of variances.

Analysis & Reporting

• Prepare analysis materials to support leadership meetings and board reporting.
• Deliver job- and location-level profitability analysis for a project-based business: job costing, contract accounting hindsight analyses, and margin fade analyzes.
• Own the labor productivity analytics that drive this business, including revenue per hour by location, service line, and project type against target rates, and convert the findings into specific actions with operations leaders.
• Analyze fleet, equipment, and indirect cost per revenue dollar in partnership with the fleet and facilities functions.
• Own the recurring monthly reporting package for the executive team and the board, assembled through automation rather than by hand.

Budget Management

• Run a bottom-up budget process with branch and operations leaders; load approved budgets by subsidiary, department, class, and location.
• Monitor variances, analyze drivers, and flag issues to provide actionable insights to increase corporate value.

Performance Monitoring

• Define and maintain the operating KPI set: revenue per hour, labor utilization, backlog conversion, receivable and retention aging, DSO, and cash conversion.
• Build KPI reporting that operators can self-serve, and hold metric definitions consistent across brands and subsidiaries.

Systems, Data & Automation

• Lead the selection and implementation of a cloud planning platform integrated to NetSuite OneWorld - dimensional design, driver logic, security, and cutover from today's spreadsheet-based process.
• Pull your own data. Saved searches in NetSuite and work directly with source systems including Ramp (spend and card data), Egnyte (contracts and job documentation), Fleetio (fleet), and timekeeping exports.
• Build and maintain dashboards on the existing Microsoft 365 estate; advanced Excel and Power Query are daily tools in this role, not occasional ones.
• Automate the recurring work. Anything rebuilt by hand every month is treated as a defect. Use AI tooling where it accelerates analysis; POWERX actively supports it.
• Partner with the VP of Finance on the NetSuite configuration that drives reporting: chart of accounts, subsidiaries, classes, departments, and project/job structures.

Team Leadership

• Build a small, high-output FP&A function in which everyone stays close to the data.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Provides mentorship, guidance, and career development opportunities to team members.
• Oversees work allocation, performance management, and team structure for maximum effectiveness.
• Partners with the Director of Global Controllership, Director of Treasury, and Director of Financial Operations leadership on close, cash, and reporting. FP&A is expected to be self-sufficient in NetSuite rather than dependent on Accounting for data pulls.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Partner with operations, project management, and branch leadership and evaluate acquisitions, new locations, and service line investments.
• Translate financial concepts for non-financial audiences, including field leadership training on P&L, EBITDA, WIP, billings vs. revenue, and cash.

Capital, Lender & Sponsor Reporting

• Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting for the board and the lender group, including the covenant compliance package for the senior secured credit facility.
• Model covenant headroom, liquidity, and capital structure scenarios; support amendments, refinancings, and diligence requests.

M&A and Integration

• Support diligence, quality-of-earnings review, and integration planning. POWERX is an active acquirer; this is an ongoing workstream, not an occasional project.
• Fold acquired entities into the planning model, chart of accounts, and KPI reporting; track synergy capture and 100-day plan targets against the deal model.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure financial processes comply with internal policies and external regulations.
• Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Additional responsibilities and tasks as required to support the organization's goals and adapt to evolving business needs.

• Must have a satisfactory background and credit check.
• Bias to build. Takes a problem from raw data to a finished, working model without waiting on IT, a consultant, or a vendor.
• Ability to communicate complex financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership qualities.
• Detail-oriented and proactive, and willing to do the unglamorous work: data cleanup, mapping tables, chart of accounts hygiene, and chasing a variance down to the individual job.
• High degree of adaptability in a dynamic business environment.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and an incomplete toolset; treats gaps as things to go fix rather than reasons the answer is unavailable.
• Genuinely curious about the operation - crews, job sites, schedules, and equipment - not only the financial statements.
• Fluent in, or hungry to learn, modern data and AI tooling; we expect this seat to be materially more productive than a traditional FP&A role.
• Direct and low-ego. Will push back on leadership with data, and will be pushed back on.

Experience and Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
• MBA or CFA encouraged but not required.
• 4+ years of progressive FP&A experience, with at least 1 year leading the function or serving as the senior-most analytical resource. Time spent building the model counts more than time spent managing people who built it.
• Hands-on NetSuite experience strongly preferred. Advanced Excel required. Experience implementing a planning system - Adaptive, Planful, Vena, Pigment, or similar - seen positively.
• Strong financial modeling and forecasting skills, demonstrated in a live modeling and data exercise during the interview process rather than described on a resume.
• Experience in a project-based business - electrical, mechanical, construction, engineering, or field services - with percentage-of-completion revenue, WIP, and job costing, strongly preferred.
• Experience in a private equity-backed and/or acquisitive environment, including lender and sponsor reporting, preferred.
