Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Coding Manager, review medical record documentation and accurately code the primary/secondary diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and/or CPT-4 coding conventions. Sequence the diagnoses and procedures using coding guidelines. Ensure DRG/APC assignment is accurate. Abstract and compile data from medical records for appropriate optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges. Required Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. Proof of highest level of education completed but not less than high school education or equivalent. An AAPC or AHIMA certification to include CAH-BS, CCS, CPC, or CIC. At least 5 years of active coding experience in Facility Inpatient Coding, and Compliant Query practices. Knowledge of coding compliance policies, official coding guidelines, regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures affecting the coding process. Demonstrated knowledge coding diagnoses, operations, and non-operative procedures utilizing the ICD10-CM, PCS and CPT coding systems. Demonstrated knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, statistics, and computer skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of MGRMC staff and support personnel required. Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form. An understanding of computer systems, process design and data management. Must have a well-groomed, professional appearance. Must have the mental and physical ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job. Ability to lift, carry, pull, & push 50 pounds. Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal fluency. Preferred Qualifications Previous Meditech experience or other related electronic records systems.
