Research Coordinator

The Department of Psychology at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Research Coordinator, Long Term Memory Lab. Our research aims to understand how we use strategic, goal directed processes to form and retrieve memories. By using a combination of recording techniques including scalp EEG and fMRI, along with multiple data analytic techniques, the lab answers questions about how global brain states and organizational strategies underlie our ability to successfully form and retrieve memories. For more information on the Department of Psychology and to read our Mission Statement, please go to The goal of the research in the lab is to understand the neural mechanisms that support our ability to form and retrieve memories. The lab collects behavioral, scalp electroencephalographic (EEG), and/or functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data while human subjects perform memory tasks. This would be an excellent position for a recent graduate seeking to gain additional research experience prior to graduate school. There will be training in multiple methods and opportunities for co-authorship on presentations and publications. Position Summary This position requires candidates to be able to work independently in a high paced environment and take initiative when necessary, multitask, and possess outstanding organizational skills. Candidate will manage recruiting and enrolling participants which involves coordinating schedules and contacting participants via telephone and email. Organizational skills are critical to overseeing data collection and data storage including study records for multiple on-going research projects. Responsibilities Carrying out behavioral and neural experiments including consenting, recording, debriefing, and paying participants Training lab members in behavioral data collection Training lab members in EEG data collection Scheduling and managing undergraduate research assistants Presenting research at lab meetings Presenting research at local and/or national conferences Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in related field Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, biomedical engineering, computer science, or any other related fields Experience: Previous research experience (>1 year) Strong quantitative skills and familiarity with standard neuroimaging analysis methods are a plus, but not required. Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. Salary Range The anticipated hiring range is $22.50-$25.00/hour, commensurate with education and experience. Position Type & Work Location This is a non-exempt-level, benefited position.
