Mainframe z/OS System Programmer

Salary: $79,920 - 152,160 per year Requirements:

• We need at least 5 years of experience in mainframe system programming on z/OS.
• We expect strong hands-on knowledge of z/OS, JES2/JES3, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, USS/OMVS, and SMP/E.
• Experience working in large-scale environments, including multi-LPAR and Parallel Sysplex setups, is required.
• Familiarity with vendor products such as Broadcom, IBM, and BMC is important.
• IBM certifications are preferred, though not mandatory.
• We value exposure to mainframe modernization efforts, including APIs and hybrid cloud integration.
• Experience with z/OSMF and modern interfaces is preferred.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices on mainframe environments, including CI/CD pipelines, is an advantage.
• Exposure to Zowe and APIs on z/OS is preferred.

• We install, configure, maintain, and optimize IBM z/OS operating systems and related system software.
• We perform operating system upgrades, migrations, and maintenance activities such as PTFs, APARs, and RSUs.
• We manage IPL processes, system initialization, and core configuration datasets such as PARMLIB, PROCLIB, and SYS1.
• We monitor system health and performance using tools such as RMF, SMF, and SDSF.
• We install, support, and tune key subsystems including JES2/JES3, TSO/E, ISPF, USS, and RACF in coordination with security teams.
• We collaborate with DB2, CICS, IMS, MQ, and Storage teams to ensure smooth integration and support.
• We analyze performance metrics, implement tuning improvements, and assist with capacity planning and resource optimization.
• We evaluate hardware enhancements, including CPU growth and z-series upgrades.
• We troubleshoot system issues, resolve abends and failures, and carry out root cause analysis for major incidents.
• We partner with IBM and other vendors on problem diagnosis and corrective actions.
• We develop and maintain automation using tools such as System REXX, CLIST, SA z/OS, and NetView.
• We support job scheduling platforms such as CA7 and Control-M where applicable.
• We maintain security configurations aligned with RACF policies and help ensure compliance with audit and regulatory standards.
• We assist with vulnerability remediation and patching efforts.
• We execute changes through ITIL-based processes and tools such as ServiceNow.
• We prepare implementation plans, rollback procedures, and validation steps.
• We support weekend maintenance windows and IPL activities.
• We create and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, standard operating procedures, and disaster recovery plans.
