Research Engineer

Research EngineerThe Research Engineer will facilitate direct discussions with client subject matter experts, operations teams and other research engineers to understand facility and process questions regarding material flow, personnel flow, utilization, space constraints and bottlenecks. In this role, you will develop and implement simulation and optimization models designed to answer questions on making the manufacturing and supply chains more effective. You will collaborate on project planning, model development and validation, deployment and long term support of the solutions.Key responsibilities include:Develop and deploy simulation and optimization models to drive strategic and tactical decisions that improve the sustainability of the food supply chain from farm to fork and help develop and improve processes for bio-based products.Apply various modeling techniques to generate solutions to problems such as yield, efficiency, and throughput improvements.Lead projects and coordinate tasks with other project team members.Work collaboratively with internal business stakeholders and project managers to transform and visualize data and model results.Summarize and present validated results and actionable recommendations.Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.Other duties as assigned.Our benefits include a wide variety of flexible and inclusive programs to meet your health, financial, and work/life needs to support you and help you succeed. Business Resource Groups (BRGs) help us embrace our diversity, make our culture more inclusive and enhance our employees' outstanding talents and perspectives to benefit our organization and employees.Job location: Wayzata, MNRequired qualifications include:Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer.Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field OR equivalent experience graduating between December 2026 – May 2027.Have successfully completed the Cargill R&D internship program.Willing and able to relocate to Wayzata, MN for this job opportunity.Two or more years of related work experience (graduate research included).Experience with object-oriented programming frameworks (for example, Python, Java, C++, or C#).Experience with chemical process modeling and simulation.Ability to work optimally with individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds and cultures.Ability to contribute, both as part of a team and individually.Strong communication skills – written and oral.Must possess a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in completing work with limited guidance.Preferred qualifications include:PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field.Experience developing simulation and optimization models leveraging commercial software tools like AspenPlus, Aspen Custom Modeler, gPROMS, AnyLogic, or similar.Experience with chemical kinetics, fermentation, or metabolic modeling.Experience developing models in one or more of the following: steady-state simulation, dynamic simulation, discrete event simulation, agent-based modeling, nonlinear programming, or mixed-integer linear programming.Equal Opportunity Employer, including Disability/Vet.
