Assistant Controller

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled, analytical, and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver with excellent critical-thinking, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. This individual oversees the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization and helps ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This position manages the accounting function, supports month-end and year-end close, and works to maintain strong financial controls and compliance. This is an exempt position, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. Duties Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities. Assist with subcontractor payment process, ensuring required paperwork is received and payment is made timely. Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial transactions. Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports. Manage the month-end and year-end close processes. Coordinate annual audits and provide audit support. Assist other accounting staff members and operations personnel as needed. Train and mentor accounting staff, as applicable. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management. Identify process improvements and efficiency enhancements and work with the accounting team to implement solutions. Ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational policies. Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned. Qualifications 5+ years of progressive accounting experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field Public accounting experience preferred Construction accounting experience preferred CPA or CPA candidate preferred Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Strong attention to detail and accuracy Excellent problem solving and communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software This job description does not include every duty or responsibility.
